Understanding Oil-free and Grease-free Daiwa SC Lance

What is Oil-free and Grease-free Daiwa SC Lance?

Daiwa SC Lance is a consumable oxygen lance pipe made from mild steel and welded using high-frequency welding equipment. It can generate heat up to 3,000°C by burning itself, used for melting solidified steel and slag adhered to equipment.

Why is It Called Oil-free and Grease-free?

The reason Daiwa SC Lance is called an oil-free and grease-free oxygen lance pipe is because after completion, Daiwa SC Lance undergoes meticulous treatment to ensure that no oil or grease remains on the finished surface of the pipes.

How do We Make it Oil-free and Grease-free?

The way we ensure both rust prevention and an oil-free, grease-free surface for Daiwa SC Lance is by using anti-rust oil at an appropriate concentration during the production process.

Additionally, during and after pipe production, we use cooling oil and surface cleaning to remove all oil and grease from the pipe surface once completed.

The process is carried out by operators and supervisors for each stage in the factory according to ISO 9001 standards. Thus, the quality of all Daiwa SC Lance products will be consistent.

For What Reason do We Need an Oil-free and Grease-free Oxygen Lance in Gas Blowing?

The use of an oil-free and grease-free oxygen blowing lance is very important, as it improves operator safety, minimizes fire or explosion hazards, and helps prevent rusting during storage in the plant.

Application of Oil-free and Grease-free Daiwa SC Lance

Based on its ability to generate high heat up to 3,000°C and oil- and grease-free characteristics, Daiwa SC Lance can be flexibly applied to the following jobs.

  1. Open tap holes by burning through its plug material with a high temperature flame.
  2. Clean residual slags adhered inside the oxygen converter.
  3. Blow oxygen to cut steel scraps or refine molten steels in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).
  4. Blow carbon, lime powder and/or other additives for adjusting grades of carbon steels.
  5. Transport natural gas or other gases.

Structure

Daiwa SC Lance features a hollow cross-section and a high-quality welding bead. Its surface is carefully processed to be clean, free from oil, grease, or other residues, and the welding line is inspected with Eddy Current Testing equipment (ECT) to ensure maximum safety for operators. Moreover, the pipe ends are specially processed for easy and secure pipe-to-pipe connections.

Size

Since Daiwa SC Lance is designed based on the dimensions of EAF furnaces, it comes in a wide range of sizes, from very small diameters like ø6.0mm or ø7.5mm up to ø21.7mm.

For Daiwa SC Lance with an OD between ø6mm and ø10mm, we refer to them as minilance, which is generally manufactured through cold drawing techniques. As  you might know, the cold drawing technique can enhance the tensile strength of the pipes, and we can adjust the thickness to suit different application requirements, whether for rigidity or flexibility.

Type

Currently, there are 4 basic processing types for Daiwa SC Lance as follows.

  1. PE (Plain End): The lance pipe has both ends left plain, without any additional processing.
  2. T2 (Threaded End): The lance pipe is threaded at both ends, and depending on customer requirements, it can be fitted with a socket and capped with plastic, or left uncapped.
  3. SE (Swaged End): The lance pipe has both ends beveled and swaged, and includes a simple cup.
  4. T6 (Pressed Coupling End): The lance pipe has one end pressed with a coupling, allowing for easy connection with Daiwa Press Coupling Machine
