Ductility

Ductility is the capacity of a material to be stretched into a wire or elongated in tension without breaking. Materials that exhibit high ductility can absorb and distribute applied stresses over a larger area, making them less likely to fracture under stress.

Ductility

The ductility ensures that the pipes can withstand deformation during installation and operational stresses without cracking.

The Role of Ductility in Oxygen Lancing

Oxygen lancing is a process used primarily in the steelmaking and metal-cutting industries. It involves the use of a high-pressure stream of oxygen to cut or pierce through metals. This technique is particularly effective for materials that are otherwise difficult to cut using conventional methods.

The ductility of the lance pipe material plays an important role in oxygen lancing applications, offering many benefits as outlined below.

  1. Resistance to Thermal Stresses
  2. Ease of Fabrication
  3. Safety and Reliability
  4. Cost-Effectiveness
