Nitrogen

Nitrogen (N₂) is a colorless, odorless gas that makes up about 78% of Earth's atmosphere. One of its most important properties is its inertness—meaning it doesn’t easily react with other chemicals.

The stability of nitrogen comes from the strong triple bond between the two nitrogen atoms, making it unreactive under normal conditions. Because of this, nitrogen is often called an inert gas and is widely used in industries where unwanted chemical reactions must be prevented.

In aluminum melting furnaces, nitrogen acts as the ideal carrier gas for injecting flux to remove impurities such as oxides and inclusions.
