Fumigation
Fumigation is a method of purifying an area with gaseous pesticides or other chemicals to remove harmful insects, bacteria or disease.
In international transport, a fumigation certificate is an approval document issued by the licensing authority and used to confirm that all wooden packing materials in the ocean cargo have been fumigated or sterilized.
In some countries, without the fumigation certificate, cargoes are not allowed to be imported into the area for fear that the harmful insects, bacteria or disease might cause damage to their living environment. However, it is not always necessary to obtain fumigation certificates. Two notable countries accept ocean cargoes without fumigation prior to loading for shipment from Vietnam are Korea and Thailand.
